Making banking safer.

Be careful whom you share information with over the phone.

You can keep your money safe by protecting your PINs and passwords and being aware of the latest schemes fraudsters use to steal your hard-earned money.

One of the most recent schemes involves receiving a call from a criminal posing as a Nedbank employee, saying that someone is trying to steal money from your account. They then ask you to give them your card number and PIN or Nedbank ID username and password. Sometimes, they'll even ask you to change your Nedbank ID username and password to a 'new' one they give you. Stop, don’t do it! You’re talking to a criminal.

  • Your Nedbank ID username and password and your card PIN is your secret. Never share them with anyone and don’t let anyone tell you what your username and password should be.

  • Nedbank employees will never ask you for your card PIN or your Nedbank ID username and password, not even to reverse a transaction or a debit order. Don’t share this information with anyone.

Keeping your passwords secret is key to keeping your money safe.

Here are some tips on how to protect your passwords:

  • Your passwords should be at least eight characters long and include uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers and symbols, but don’t use obvious details like your name, date of birth, ID number or telephone number.
  • Don’t store your passwords on your device – if your device is stolen and a criminal gains access to your device, they'll have access to all your passwords.
  • Don't use the same username and password for all your logins – if one account is compromised, all your accounts are compromised.
  • Your username and password should be different – having the same or similar usernames and passwords makes it easier for fraudsters to hack your accounts.
  • If you have the Nedbank Private Wealth app on your device and its lost or stolen, report it to us immediately.
