Beware of fraudsters posing as nedbank

Fraudsters are becoming more sophisticated - not just with their scams, but in how they try to trick you into sharing your secret information.

One trick they use is sending an SMS claiming that Nedbank will call you - but it's not Nedbank, it's the fraudsters. To make their calls seem real, they may:

  • send an SMS saying your account has been compromised and that you should expect a call from us - sometimes even naming the person who will call; or
  • send a fake SMS about a large transaction on your account, then call shortly after to 'help' you.

In both cases, the call might feel genuine - but it's part of the scam.

Tips to stay safe

  • Never share your Nedbank ID login details, card PIN, expiry date, or CSC (the 3- or 4-digit code on your card) with anyone – we will never ask for your secret information.
  • Call us immediately if you receive an Approve-it message, SMS, or OTP for a transaction you didn't make, and reject any Approve-it requests for transactions you didn't initiate.
  • If we call about a suspicious transaction, simply confirm whether it's yours or not - do not share any secret information.
  • If you suspect fraud, call us right away on 0800 110 929.
